Local e-commerce company shop.com.mm has launched its “official account” on Chinese app WeChat to reach out to its customer base.
The move made shop.com.mm the first firm in Myanmar to have an “official account” on the messaging and calling app.
Shop.com.mm, one of many ventures of German incubator Rocket Internet in Myanmar, said that WeChat will allow it to provide current promotional offers, better customer service and be a medium to easily communicate with its customers.

Elin Torstensson, managing director, shop.com.mm, said, “WeChat is a very powerful tool for us to connect with the people of Myanmar. The app … includes many features that are ideal for a growing e-commerce company like us.
“… by using new mediums, such as WeChat, we not only reach out more directly to our customers, but also learn about their likes, needs and the trends that are influencing them.”
WeChat claims to be the world’s fastest growing social communication app and has recently entered the Myanmar market.
Poshu Yeung, vice president of International Business Group at Tencent, the Shenzhen-based company behind WeChat, said, “WeChat has been committed to make communication easier in Myanmar as it has done in China, Malaysia and other markets.
“WeChat will … bring Myanmar people the best local experience using our app, working with top local merchants such as shop.com.mm is the first step in that direction.”
