Emirates will launch a daily service from Dubai to Yangon and Hanoi from August 3, the company announced yesterday. Dubai’s flagship carrier will use a three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft for the new route, which will bring its network in Southeast Asia to 12 cities.
Qatar Airways is currently the only airline that flies into Myanmar from the Middle East, with a direct route to Doha that launched in 2012.
Emirates said its decision to launch the new service was based on the continued increase in foreign tourist arrivals, “in particular those interested in eco-tourism or the country’s many historical temples”.
“Yangon welcomed 1.1 million tourists in 2014, an increase of 25 percent compared to the previous year,” the company said, noting that the government’s Tourism Master Plan targets 7.5 million arrivals by 2020.
