Local Data Centre Receives Uptime Institute Tier III Certification

Myint & Associates
Myint & Associates Construction Company Ltd said its data centre has received US-based Uptime Institute’s Tier III certification.
New York-based Uptime Institute LLC is a consortium of companies that engage in education, publications, consulting, certifications, conferences and seminars for the enterprise data centre industry and for data centre professionals. It is best known for its widely adopted tier certifications of data centres.

The certifications are awarded in four levels: Tier IV - Fault tolerant site infrastructure; Tier III - Concurrently maintainable site infrastructure; Tier II - Redundant capacity components site infrastructure (redundant); and Tier I - Basic site infrastructure (non-redundant).
The data centre is located at Vantage Tower, a property being developed by Myint & Associates. The construction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year, the company said.
Vantage Tower, a 236,144sqft (21,938sqm) gross floor area (GFA) mixed-use building, is located on the intersection of Inya road and Pyay road. The building will consist of two joined components: Tower A, an 18-storey mixed-use tower with two basement levels that will provide approximately 100,000sqft (9,290sqm) of office accommodation and a penthouse on the 16th floor; and Tower B, which will house the data centre and has a six-level multi-storey car park.
M&A Data Centre is located on the 6th floor of Tower B of the property and offers 90 racks of server co-location storage space and support services.
“M&A Data Centre intends to host external clients as well as Vantage Tower tenants and is attracting a significant number of inquiries from telecommunication companies, financial institutions, government and co-location tenants,” said Hugo Slade, managing director of Slade Property Services, official property agent of Vantage Tower.
“M&A Data Centre is the first and only data centre in Myanmar that has received the Uptime Institute’s Tier III level certification … We have already leased a good number of racks and we expect to lease all 90 racks very quickly.”
The company said M&A Data Centre has been designed to ensure 99.98 percent operational time on an annual basis with maximum downtime of no more than 1.6 hours per year.
“In a market such as Myanmar, it is very challenging to develop and execute a data centre design which ensures constant reliable power and facilities which include multi-homing internet connectivity,” said U Thein Soe Htaik, Infra Team Leader and Head of the Data Centre team.
“At Vantage Tower, we have installed three gen-sets, each of which are capable of providing 100 percent redundant back-up power. Three sources of UPS units utilising Distributed Parallel Architecture, or DPA, eliminate downtime associated with the 30 second gen-set initialisation period whereby back-up gen-sets also exist to ensure that M&A Data Centre and base building systems are continuously running,” he added.
