Yangon has a new school focused on finance, with the aim of boosting Myanmar’s pool of educated business people.
The Myanmar Institute of Business, which is located on the first floor of Myanmar Plaza, currently offers seven courses and can help students prep to gain an international certification, the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).
Its list of partners includes Bloomberg from the United States and the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce among others.
“Now that the country is going through its phase of development, Myanmar demands educated youths more than ever,” said MIB executive director Ko Min Maung Maung Thant.
“There are only a handful of people who have really mastered knowledge of the finance sector. Myanmar needs more finance-educated people in this sector.”
The school targets students who are already working or seeking master’s degrees.
“These are young people who are really educated, but they have a lot of difficulty when they start working,” said Ko Min Maung Maung Thant. “MIB wants to help those working or about to work to perform better in their jobs by educating them practically.”
Eighty percent of the school’s lectures will be conducted in English with foreign teachers, but may vary depending on the course. However, students should not be put off if their English isn’t perfect, according to Ko Min Maung Muang Thant.
“If the students can understand 50-60 percent of an English movie, it will be enough,” he said.
The school has already opened, and scholarships are available for future students.
