VPower Bags Two More Gas Power Projects in Myanmar

Hong Kong-based power solutions provider VPower Group has signed two new power generation contract arrangements with the state-run Myanma Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE).
The power plants will be situated at the Special Economic Zone of Kyaukphyu and the industrial city Myingyan. The contract period is for five years.

In Kyaukphyu, VPower will be doubling its existing power generation output to 90MW, which will be injected directly to the existing 230kV transmission network.
In March, VPower started delivering 45MW of power to the national grid with 32 gas generator sets at its Kyaukphyu power plant. The new installation is set to be brought online in 120 days, like its predecessor.
The 133MW power installation in Myingyan will power the state-owned steel mill. This power plant will take into account the voltage fluctuations and will be a first technical challenge of its kind for VPower. It will also connect directly to the existing 230kV lines located close to the mill.
Both distributed power projects will be constructed in parallel and is set to going into operation in March 2016.
Kenny Li, Commercial Director of VPower said, “Driving sustained economic growth makes reliable power generation Myanmar’s key priorities. The project builds upon our experience and will further our strong track record in gas engine-based power generation capabilities.”
