Telenor Myanmar Limited has expanded its network to Dawei, the capital of Tanintharyi region, which is the 13th major area under Telenor’s coverage.
The Norwegian firm previously rolled out its network in Mandalay, Yangon, Sagaing, Bago, Magway and Ayeyarwaddy regions, Kayin, Mon, Kachin, Shan and Kayah states and Naypyitaw.
“Although we are facing some challenges in the rainy reason,
we are doing our best to continue the pace of our network growth. We have gradually expanded our service to more town and cities…,” Petter Furberg, chief executive officer of Telenor Myanmar, said.
“We are also … optimising our network at the places where we have been launched,” he added.
Telenor now claims to have a network footprint of more than 2,700 sites, covering more than 50 percent of populated areas across Myanmar, since it started its network rollout in August last year. The company is expected to rollout between 3,500 and 4,000 towers by end-2015.
“We have started to use innovative ways and world-class solutions to provide more capacity in our network in big cities such as Yangon and Mandalay. We are working hard to improve the quality of our network in the cities: in Yangon we now have more than 811 sites, while in Mandalay we now have 521 sites turned on.”
Telenor’s network in Dawei was launched with 16 towers in Dawei and 60 in Tanintharyi region. Telenor has over 700 points-of-sale (POS) in Dawei and 900 POS in Myeik.
Telenor recently lowered voice tariffs from K25 to K18 in a bid to get an edge with its two other competitors – Qatar’s Ooredoo and state-run MPT.
