Students at the Yangon Technological University (YTU) in Myanmar is to get access to the library of economic reports on emerging markets produced by the UK-based publishing, research and consultancy firm Oxford Business Group (OBG).
Under the agreement, which forms part of OBG’s worldwide Academic Programme, students at the university will be provided with read-only access to OBG’s country reports, alongside over 25,000 searchable articles.

The initiative was undertaken in partnership with the Shwe Taung Group, who had donated a six-storey building that now houses YTU’s human resource development centre.
YTU’s Rector, Professor Aye Myint, said the university’s students would benefit from the opportunity. “Yangon Technological University attaches huge importance to research,” he said. “Free access to Oxford Business Group’s extensive library covering emerging countries means our students are now in a position to thrive.”
U Aik Htun, chairman, Shwe Taung Group, said that an increasingly global economy, coupled with fast-approaching regional integration, meant education was now high on the agenda for much of Myanmar’s younger generation.
“With the launch of the ASEAN Economic Community nearing, Myanmar’s students will soon be able to capitalise on the free flow of labour,” he said.
OBG currently partners over 60 universities and business schools worldwide as part of its Academic Programme, providing over 10,000 students with access to its data.
Michael Nesbitt, OBG’s editorial manager, said that the number of emerging markets in which students and academics are using Oxford Business Group’s articles is growing.
“We look forward to supporting Myanmar’s bid to put education at the forefront of its development by sharing our business intelligence with the YTU’s staff and students, many of whom will be playing a key role in shaping the country’s future.”
